Associate Dean, School Arts, Humanities & Education

Synopsis

Under the direction of the Dean this position works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility in planning, organizing, and managing services associated with academic advising, outreach, admissions, assessment, orientation, mentoring, and scheduling. Assists the Dean and Department Chairs with responding to University departments, educational institutions, the community, students, and/or external agencies.

The Associate Dean is required to use good ethical judgement and seeks the success of students first. The Associate Dean assists the Dean and Department Chairs with evaluating and giving feedback for improvement of performance of programsespecially in measures of student success: student persistence, progression, and completion.

Essential Functions:
  • Promotes the reputation and differentiated offerings of the school and university by participating in activities sponsored by the outreach teams.
  • Assists with the implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement for courses, programs, and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Assist with the maintenance, reaffirmation and expansion for accreditations, including specialty accredited programs (if applicable), certifications and certificates.
  • Oversees benchmarking analyses.
  • Facilitates School faculty committee meetings and activities.
  • Represents the School at marketing content meetings.
  • Coordinates the activities for meetings.
  • Maintains voting status on appropriate school and university curriculum committees.
  • Assist the Dean with grant writing and securing funding for special projects.
  • Reviews the initial drafts of CurCom proposals and new programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of social, business, and philanthropic cultures around the world.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the priorities of all of the departments within the SoAHE and make persuasive verbal and written cases for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific SoAHE needs.
  • Meet regularly with colleagues within the SoAHE , and across the University (specifically Student Services) campus to coordinate, develop and execute strategies for alumni relations.
  • Collaborate with SoAHE leaders, staff, faculty, and students to build an understanding of the educational and research offerings in the SoAHE sufficient for engaging interests of alums.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and planning of activities for the SoAHE leadership team and faculty to engage with alumni and potential partnerships.

Required Skills:

  • Detailed knowledge of curriculum development and improvement processes.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and learning theory principles in the online environment.
  • Knowledge of student success approaches to increase retention, persistence, progression and completion.

Education and Experience
  • Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution is required. Degree in Arts, Humanities, Education or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Experience with student success initiatives (retention completion and persistence) is strongly preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in an academic leadership position as a department chair, program director, or similar academic supervisory position at the university level is required.
  • Three or more years of experience with online higher education is required.
  • Three or more years of experience with developing external partnerships (education, military, corporate, community, alumni) is required.
  • Successful grant writing and funding of special projects (University Development) experience is strongly preferred.
